Abstract :
Woman and beauty are two interrelated things. Women are categorized as beautiful seen by many aspects such as physical appearance, skin tone, also the behavior. Basically, women have their own beauty which cannot equalized with each other. Tall Girl movie which is directed by Nzingha Stewart is one of movie which raising beauty myth issues in the movie story. This movie told about a girl named Jodi which feels insecure about her height which around 190 cm. She is regarded as an ugly girl and bullied by the people around her. Besides Jodi Kreyman's character, this movie also told about other female characters who also deal with beauty myth. This study analyzes how the beauty myth represented in the Tall Girl movie. There is two main focus of this study which is the types of myth beauty and the influence of myth beauty to the woman character in the movie. In analyze those things, this study uses the theory Naomi Wolf?s beauty myth. This study uses descriptive qualitative method in order to represent the information in form of text or transcript from movie as the object of the study. The results of this study show that there are five beauty myths, namely beauty myth in culture, beauty myth in religion, beauty myth in sex, beauty myth hunger, and beauty myth in violence, and four influences caused by beauty myth, namely excessive obsession, low self-esteem, construct women perspective and negative body image towards all female characters in Tall Girl movie.
