Abstract :
Writing is one of the language skills which is used to communicate ideas.
To get the achievement in teaching writing, the teacher can apply strip story as a
media. Strip story in writing paragraph is rearrange and develop subsequence
picture or paper cutting paragraph into a good paragraph. By the reason, the
present researcher was so curios to investigate the effect of strip story to teach
students’ ability in writing for the eleventh graders of MA NW Sambelia in the
school year of 2013/2014. The research questions were formulated as follows the
strip story effective to teach students in writing procedure text for the eleventh
graders of MA NW Sambelia in the school year of 2013/2014
To answer the research questions, the present researcher designed the
research by using an experimental research. The present researcher took all the
eleventh grade of MA NW Sembelia as the population and took class X1 1 as an
experimental group and class XI 2 as a control group of this study by using Total
sampling technique. To collect the data, the present researcher presented essay test
as the instrument of this study. In order to analyze the data, the present researcher
applied descriptive statistics and t- test.
The result of the study has revealed that the mean score of experimental
group in pre- test was 9.53 and post- test was 11.35, while the mean score of
control group in pre- test was 9.3 and the post- test was 10.1. in testing the
hypothesis, the present researcher used t- test formula. The present researcher
found that the t- test was 11.2 and t- table in significant rank 0.05 was 2.004
(11.2> 2.004). It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. So, it can be
concluded that strip story is effective to teach students’ ability in writing for the
eleventh graders of MA NW Sembelia in the school year of 2013/2014. It was
proved that the students who were taught by using strip story got higher score than
the students who were taught without using strip story.
