Abstract :
This study aimed at knowing the effect of colorful English text toward reading mastery of fifth
grade students of MI Ikhwanul Muslimin NW Ramban Biak. This study was designed as
experimental research. The populations of this study were 40 students, as the sample of this study
the writer took all of the population and divided them into two groups. The pre-test and post-test
were administrated to experimental and control groups, to get the data, the research instruments
which used by the writer to collect the data were a test which consisted of 20 items namely
multiple choices test. After collecting and calculating the data, the researcher found out the mean
score of experimental group in pre-test was 31. Andin post-test was 63.25, while the mean score
of control group in pre-test was 34 and in post-test was 50.5. In testing the hypothesis, the
researcher used t-test formula. The mean of deviation score of experimental group was 32.25 and
the standard deviation was 3923.75, while the mean score of deviation score of control group was
17.5 and the standard deviation was 1525. The researcher found out that t-test value was 3.895 and
t-table value in significant level 0.05 (5%) (df 28) was 1.617 (3.895>1.617). So, the alternative
hypothesis was accepted. It means that there was a significant effect of using colorful English text
toward reading mastery at the fifth grade students of MI Ikhwanul Muslimin NW Ramban Biak in
the academic year 2014/2015.
