Abstract :
This study intended to know the effect of using lyrics of song to
improve students’ vocabulary of verb (an experimental study at the
eighth graders of SMP Negeri 3 Pringgabaya in the academic year of
2014/2015). The research methodology was an experimental research,
which was conducted in two classes; the experimental group (VIIIA)
and control group (VIII G) as sample. Class VIII A was taught by
using song lyrics, while class VIII G was taught without song lyrics
(using conventional method).In gaining the data, the writer attempted
to employ some techniques, like observation, documentation, and test.
After the data have been collected by using test, it was found that the
mean score of the experimental group at the pre-test was 5.9 and
control group was 3.9. While, the mean score of the experimental
group at the post test was 7.3and control group was 6.7. The obtained
t-test was 4.5, whereas the t-table was 4.3for a = 5%. The t-test score
was higher than the t-table (4.5 > 4.3). It was meant that Ha was
accepted while Howas rejected. Since t-test score was higher than the
t-table, lyric of song was effective media in improving students’
vocabulary of verb at the eighth graders of SMP Negeri 3 Pringgabaya
in the academic year of 2014/2015. Finally the writer suggests to the
teachers that they should use lyric of song as one of media in the
teaching vocabulary of verb.
