Abstract :
Writing is one of skills in English. It is often considered a difficult
subject by the students. One of the technique that can applied in teaching
writing is dictogloss technique. Dictogloss technique is a language
teaching technique by using classroom dictation activity where the learners
reconstruct a text by listening and noting down the key words of the text.
This researcher used the descriptive text as the test. Descriptive text is a
text that describe or illustrate the object, place, person or idea by his/her
eyes physically. The objective of the study was to find out the effect of
applying dictogloss technique on students? achievement in writing
descriptive text at tenth grade of SMA Al Washliyah 3 Medan.
The study was conducted by using experimental research design.
The population of this study was three classes of tenth grade of SMA Al
Washliyah 3 Medan. The samples were taken by using clustering
technique and two of three classes were taken into samples, one class as
experimental group and another class as control group. In the treatment,
the experimental group was taught by applying Dictogloss technique.
Writing descriptive text test was used as the instrument of collecting the
data. Therefore, after analyzing the data, it was found that the value of to
