Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to build up students? vocabulary by implementing Odd Man Out at MTs Darul Ulum Budi Agung Medan. The research was conducted by using class action research. It was done two cycles. Every cycle consisted of four steps, namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of this study were 42 students at the eigth grade of MTs Darul Ulum Budi Agung Medan in academic 2014/2015. The data of this research were collected by quantitative data (vocabulary test) and qualitative data (observation sheet, questionnaire, and field notes). Based on the data analysis, it was found that the score of students increased from the cycle I until cycle II. From the counting, the mean of pre test was 43,09 and there was no student who got score 65. The mean of the post test in cycle I was 78,33. There was 39 students who got score above 65. The mean of the post test in cycle II was 89,17 and there was 40 students who got score above 65. The improvement of the students? score from the post test in cycle I to the post test in cycle II was about 10,84. It means that the students? score have been reached the target. Then, the result of t-test showed that tcount is 7,62 and ttable to df = N ? 1 = 42 ? 1 = 41, with the fact level ? = 0,05 which the real level of ttable = 2,02. In the coeficient of tcount (7,62) > ttable (2,02). tcount is higher than ttable . Thus hypothesis alternative (Ha) could be received. So it indicated that the implementation of Odd Man Out to build up students? vocabulary is accepted.
