In addition to library research methods, historical research methods are methods that
are also used in this study. According to Notosusanto, the purpose of the historical
research method is: the procedure of history to describe the past tale is a reality and
actually happened.
In this study the authors analyzed the contents of the letters and speeches as well as
the history of the Caliph Ali bin Abi Talib in running his government from a political
communication perspective, namely lobbying, rhetoric, agitation and political
propaganda. The political rhetoric carried out by the Caliph Ali, both in sermons and
letters, has high persuasive power by using language that is decisive to influence,
reducing the human psyche positively towards the truth. Caliph Ali's political
agitation
in the content of his sermons and letters seeks to stimulate and arouse the emotions
of
the public, so that they are willing to make great sacrifices for the immediate and
willing purpose of sacrificing their lives to realize a political ideal.
