Abstract :
This research was designed to analyze students? ability in essay writing. The researcher focused on five aspects of writing; format, punctuation and mechanic, content, organization, grammar and sentence structure. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative method. The population of this research was the third- semester student of English Language Education FKIP UIR. 26 students were chosen as the sample, they were the students who took Essay Writing subject with the academic year 2018/2019. The result of findings showed that there were four students (15,4%) were categorized Very Good, there were 17 students (65,4%) categorized Good, there were 5 students (19,2%) categorized fair and there were no students got score in Excellent level and Poor level. To be concluded, the ability of the third- semester student of English Language Education FKIP UIR in essay writing was GOOD.
