Abstract :
Waste from petroleum exploration is called produced water or what is known as produced water. Talking about this produced water is that water that comes out of the ground surface should not be directly disposed of because it contains manysubstances that are harmful to the environment. In general, the oil industry useswalnut shell media to do this. Therefore, before this produced water is disposed ofneed to do a process (water treatment) to reduce the harmful content in order tomeet water quality standars. Research on the effect of activated carbon as a filtermedia during the water treatment process has been carried out several times. Thisstudy will use activated carbon rubber fruit shells as filter media and use twothicknesses of 10 cm and 15 cm. the results of the research that have been carriedout show that the remaining oil content in the two thicknesses shows the sameresults, namely < 5 ppm. The results for a thickness of 10 cm showed that the TDScontent decreased by 881.9 ppm with an efficiency of 9.56% and for turbidity thevalue decreased by 2.18 NTU with an efficiency 29.22%. while the results for athickness of 15 cm showed that the TDS content decreased by 612.0 ppm with anefficiency of 37.24% and for turbidity the value decreased by 2.25 NTU with anefficiency of 26.94%
