Abstract :
The problem of this study is the low self-confidence among students in learning Islamic Studies in class VII at SMPN 2 Siak Hulu. Self-confidence is very important in the learning process because if the students have self-confidence, then they are ready to face the dynamics of life in a school environment that is full of challenges. Feeling confidence in one's self and avoiding to hide the weaknesses can lead him/her to become a successful independent adult human figure. The teaching method used by teachers so far is only the lecture method. To overcome these problems, it is suggested to use the STAD-type cooperative learning model, because in this learning model the students are required to be active in groups so that the students' self-confidence can improve. The problem formulation of this study: can the STAD- type cooperative learning model improve the students? self-confidence in learning Islamic Studies in class VII at SMPN 2 Siak Hulu?. The aim of this study is to investigate the use of STAD-type cooperative learning model to improve the students? self-confidence in learning Islamic Studies in class VII at SMPN 2 Siak Hulu. The type of this study is classroom action research with 2 cycles of action, which in each cycle consists of 4 actions, namely planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. Based on the data analysis obtained in the field, it is found that the students' self-confidence before using the STAD-type cooperative learning model was in the low category. After using the STAD-type cooperative learning model at the first cycle, the students' self-confidence improved by 53%. Furthermore, at the second cycle, the students? self-confidence improved by 87.5%. So, the results of this study can be concluded that the use of STAD-type cooperative learning learning model can improve the students? self-confidence in learning Islamic Studies in class VII at SMPN 2 Siak Hulu.
