Abstract :
Research Puppet is a doll, small figures of an animal moved by hands, used in plays or shows. In this research, puppet is used as a media to teach speaking. The aim of this research is to find out the effectiveness of Puppet show in improving students? speaking ability in recount text. This research was a Classroom Action Research. It had been done in two cycles, consisted of process; plan, action, observation, and reflection. In collecting the data, the researcher used four kinds of instrument. There were tests, observation sheet, interview, and field note. The participant of this research was the grade X SMA YLPI PEKANBARU in academic year 2018/2019. The number of students was 25, in class X IPA 1. The research had been implemented from March, 18 th until April, 11 th 2019. The result of this research showed that the students? speaking ability by using puppet show improved. It can be seen from the result of students? speaking ability. The average base score of students was 57.44 (poor), and in cycle I was 66.16 (fair), in cycle II was 73.94 (good). The factors which improve students? speaking ability in recount text were the students? motivation in speaking, the useful of puppet media itself were make students interested to study, and the situation of students? activities were conducive. Finally, the students were more active and motivated in teaching and learning process.
