Abstract :
This research to improve students? biology learning outcomes after application
discussion grade VII3. Data retrieval was done in 18th August until 22 nd September 2017.
The subjects were students grade VII3 SMP Negeri 17 Pekanbaru, amounting to 39
students. This research is a classroom action research (PTK). Data were analyzed
descriptively The cognitive value data were obtained by absorption of students has
increased before PTK namely (74.1%) to (82.1%) at first cycle. And continue to increase
to (85.3%) at second cycle. Absorptive capacity of student to the value data has increased
before PTK namely (76.5%) to (84.1%) at the first cycle. And continue to increase to (85,
2 %) at second cycle. Based on this research, can be concluded that the application of
discussion method by using handout can improve students? biology learning outcomes on
students? grade VII3 SMP Negeri 17 Pekanbaru at academic year 2017/2018.
