Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to determine the causes of the crime of theft of public facilities (decorative lights) in Pekanbaru City. The type of research used is a qualitative approach to the case study method, the type of data used is primary and secondary data by collecting observation data, interviews, and documentation, then the data and information obtained are analyzed inductively. The theft of public facilities in Pekanbaru City in the form of decorative lights located on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan Arifin Ahmad was due to factors behind the incident. One of the most supportive factors is the habit or routine activity of the perpetrator who want s to get economic benefits for the goods in the public space, and the opportunity or opportunity that allows him to steal decorative lights. Then the lack of supervision carried out by the authorities and concern from the community around the location open s opportunities for criminals to carry out their actions.
