Abstract :
Transportation is one of the most important things in development. The simultaneous use of transportation facilities and infrastructure is being particular concern for Indonesian government, especially in terms of achieving the planned life of a road segment. The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing continues to innovate the implementation of road infrastructure development in order to achieve the planned service life, one of the research is the uses of polyethylene plastic type HDPE as an additional material in concrete asphalt. As a result of research conducted by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing concluded that polyethylene plastic type HDPE can improve the quality of a concrete asphalt layers. However, the use of polyethylene plastics that is fixed to criteria of the research by the government is limited to plastics with a cut of 0.4 cm x 0.4 cm. This thesis is trying to find an alternative palstic size that can be used as an additive to a concrete asphalt mixture where the plastic size is 0.4 cm on the wide side and 5-10 cm on the long side. The number of plastic additions starts from 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% and variations of the dimensions of cutting polyethylene plastic type HDPE used consisting of sizes 0.4 cm x 0.4 cm and sizes 0, 4 cm x 5-10 cm. The method used is the wet and dry mixing method. From the research results obtained marshall characteristics tend to meet the criteria in the Interim Special Specification for Hot Paved Mixtures using Plastic Waste. However, the plastic with a long cutting (0,4 cm x 5-10 cm) dimension relatively change in the value of Marshall characteristics at every 2% increase in the content of the plastic. Unlike the pastic with short cuts (0,4 cm x 0,4 cm) where the change in value is relatively small.
