Abstract :
The research entitled Riau Islamic University (UIR) Student Perceptions of Alter Accounts on Twitter Social Media is motivated by the increasing number of alter users on Twitter social media, alter account users on Twitter are very disturbing, because alters on Twitter abuse the meaning of alter. , they use alters to show their dark side by displaying vulgar themed photos and then selling them to the following. This study aims to determine how the perception of students at the Islamic University of Riau on alter accounts that sell pornographic content on Twitter. This research was conducted at the Islamic University of Riau (UIR).The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, where the subject of this research is 9 resource persons where the 9 resource persons are taken from each faculty and are considered to represent all students of the Islamic University of Riau.The results of this study resource indicate that the existence of an alter account is a symbol of freedom to use social media to express oneself which cannot be done in everyday life, but the existence of an alter account that shows a negative side showing a vulgar photo of himself is considered taboo in Indonesia.
