Abstract :
Pyrolysis is an irregular decomposition process of organic materials caused by heating without contact with outside air. Pyrolysis reaction will produce products in the form of solids, liquids and gases. The components of this device consist of heaters, reactors, smoke conduit pipes, condenser containers, spiral pipes, liquid smoke valves and liquid smoke reservoirs. One important component in determining the success in making liquid coconut shell smoke in this pyrolysis tool is a condenser. The condenser is a heat exchanger that functions to condense the working fluid. Condensation occurs if the temperature of the material is below the saturation temperature of the gas, then the gas changes in phase from steam to liquid. This test uses a coconut shell as raw material that has been cleaned and reduced in size, this pyrolysis process continues for 3 hours every single test. The test was carried out three times with a pipe diameter of 0.38, 0.5 and 0.63 in. from the results of the study it can be seen that the highest heat transfer rate in the condenser pipe is dominated by 0.5 in diameter pipe with a total heat flow rate of 16.01 W. The pipe that produces the largest volume of liquid smoke is 398 ml in pipe diameter 0.5 in.
