Seseorang dapat memiliki banyak identitas sesuai dengan posisi mereka di setiap hubungan sosial yang mereka jalani, sebagai ayah, artis, bahkan sahabat. Masing-masing posisi tersebut memiliki maksud dan tujuan yang kemudian menjadi bagian dari identitas. Novel The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea yang ditulis oleh Yukio Mishima menceritakan tentang proses pembentukan identitas yang dialami seorang anak laki-laki bernama Noboru. Noboru mengenal dunia dengan melihat dari mata orang lain. Dalam skripsi ini, penulis akan membahas beberapa aspek di kehidupan Noboru terkait pembentukan identitasnya dengan menganalisa: pertama, bagaimana persepsi Noboru tentang dunia, kedua aspek apa saja yang membentuk identitas Noboru, dan ketiga bagaimana aspek tersebut mempengaruhi perkembangan identitasnya. Pada akhir pembahasan, penulis menemukan bahwa Noboru mengganggap bahwa ayah adalah sosok yang tidak baik karena dia hanya memikirkan dirinya sendiri. Noboru meyakini bahwa seorang pria harus mencapai mimpinya tanpa terpengaruhi oleh hal-hal lain. Keluarga, teman, dan orang lain dalam kehidupannya membentuk identitasnya yang malah memberikan persepsi baru untuknya. Pietersz, Fredericka Adonia. 2019. Each position has their own meaning and purpose which later become a part of identity. Yukio Mishima?s novel The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea is a story about the search of self-identity of a child, Noboru. He sees the world through other?s eyes and slowly applies the perceptions that others belief. In this skripsi, the present writer will discuss some of the aspects in Noboru?s life related to identity?s search by analyzing: first, what is Noboru?s perception about the world, second what aspects that shape his identity, and the third how those aspects influence his identity formation. The result are Noboru?s perception of a father is not good because he is a bad social role and he only thinks of himself. Noboru believes that a man should fulfill his dreams without being distracted by another thing. Family, peer group and other people shape his identities, which in turns gives him a new perspective.
