Abstract :
This project paper aims to identify the leadership style of Captain Joe Glass as the main character in Hunter Killer movie (2018), an action film directed by Donovan Marsh which is an adaptation for a novel titled Firing Point by Don Keith and George Wallace published in 2012. This movie tells the story about the struggle of Captain Joe Glass, who has never been a captain before, to lead the USS Arkansas submarine to carry out the mission of rescuing Russian President hostaged by his own admiral. In this research, the writer uses a textual approach combined with characterization and transformational leadership theory. Characterization theory is used to analyze Captain Joe Glass's round character, while transformational leadership theory is used to analyze Captain Joe Glass's leadership style and its influence for his environment. The results of this research indicate that Captain Joe Glass has a round characterization portraited through his complexity of assertive, brave, and humble personality. The research also finds that Captain Joe Glass has a transformational leadership style shown by his charisma, intellectual stimulation, individual consideration, and inspirational motivation. His leadership style succeeds in giving significant influence for the crew, the state, and the enemy. Keywords: Hunter Killer, influence of leadership style, transformasional leadership style
