Abstract :
This thesis entitled Translation Methods of Figurative Language Used in Edgar Allan Poe?s Poems. This study aims to analyze methods used to translate the figure of speech in the poems by Edgar Allan Poe. The methodology used for this research is descriptive qualitative. The data analysed were taken from Edgar Allan Poe Complete Tales and Poems Published by Top Five Books. The writer used three poems with the title, The Raven, Annabel Lee and The Bells. The translated versions were taken from The Raven Stories and Poems Published by Noura Books, Sang Gagak, Annabel Lee, and Lonceng-Lonceng. The writer found 7, out of 9 kinds of figurative languages, from 25 figurative languages used in the poems. The writer limited the data to 15 figures of speech. The writer analyzes 2 data per figurative for simile, metonymy, synecdoche, metaphor, apostrophe, personification and 3 data for hyperbole. The translation method mostly used by the translator is literal translation. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis metode yang digunakan untuk menerjemahkan majas dalam puisi karya Edgar Allan Poe. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang dianalisis diambil dari Edgar Allan Poe Complete Tales and Poems Published by Top Five Books. Penulis menggunakan tiga puisi dengan judul, The Raven, Annabel Lee dan The Bells. Versi terjemahan diambil dari The Raven Stories and Poems Published by Noura Books, Sang Gagak, Annabel Lee, dan Lonceng-Lonceng. Penulis menemukan 7, dari 9 jenis majas, dari 25 majas yang digunakan dalam puisi. Penulis membatasi data menjadi 15 majas. Penulis menganalisis 2 data per majas untuk simile, metonymy, synecdoche, metafora, apostrof, personifikasi dan 3 data untuk hyperbole. Metode penerjemahan yang paling sering digunakan oleh penerjemah adalah literal translation. Kata kunci: Penerjemahan, majas, metode penerjemahan
