Abstract :
Writing is the skill that requires practices. There are numerous ways the teachers can give to the students in order to make the students get practice in writing. One of them is writing journals. By writing the journals, they practiced their skill in writing recount since most of their journals were about their experienced in the past. Organizing is one of the problems that the students mostly face when writing. Although the students are good at grammar, vocabulary, mechanics, and content development, it does not guarantee that they can organize their writing well. The purpose of this study is to describe the organization, coherence and unity of the English Education Department students? journals. The subject of this study is 76 journals written by the students taking Writing B academic year 2017/2018. The data was collected from Schoology since the students submitted all the journals in Schoology. The finding showed that most of the journals (76,8%) written by the students were organized completely. They wrote orientation, sequence of events and re-orientation chronologically. The finding also showed that the students tend to use grammatical cohesion (64,3%) rather than lexical cohesion (35,7%) in order to achieve coherence. Lastly, the journals written by Writing B students were mostly unified (91%) because they wrote topic sentence that related with the supporting sentences.
