Abstract :
Delaying cutting the umbilical cord is an alternative to prevent the birth of babies with anemia.Anemia in newborns has several impacts, including affecting the growth and development of thebaby, decreasing immune function and even infant death. This research was conducted at RSIASitti Khadidjah Gorontalo. The aim was to determine the effect of delaying umbilical cord cuttingon the hemoglobin levels of newborn. The design is quasi-experimental with a posttest groupdesign approach. The sample was 30 respondents who were divided into 15 respondents in theintervention group and 15 respondents in the control group using a purposive samplingtechnique. This study used observation sheets and digital hemoglobin measuring instruments. Theresults of data analysis using the independent t-test statistical test showed there was an influenceof delay in cutting the umbilical cord on the hemoglobin levels of newborn with a sig (2-tailed)value of 0.000. In conclusion, delaying in cutting the umbilical cord can affect the hemoglobinlevels of newborns.
