Abstract :
The problem studied in this research is the role of class teachers towards children with special needs. This study aims to determine the form of the teacher?s role in SLB Negeri Gorontalo Regency. Teachers? role is very important in supporting children with special needs in learning. They help children overcome learning difficulties and understand children?s potential. This research uses a qualitative approach. The research instruments used were interviews, documentation, and observation. Respondents in this study were principal and teachers. The research was conducted on students with special needs who are deaf, mentally disabled, and autistic. The number of students with special needs in SLB Negeri Gorontalo Regency is 63, 31 males and 32 females. The media used during learning is real media. The results showed that the role of teachers in Gorontalo Regency State Special Schools is: First, the teacher is a mediator between learning materials and students. Second, the facilitator provides comfort and helps the therapy process for children with special needs. Third, motivator by motivating children with special needs who are lazy to participate in learning. Fourth, companion by accompanying children with special needs in teaching and learning activities. Fifth, the mentor guides, inviting and directing every step of children with special needs.
