Abstract :
YouTube is a useful resource for teaching and studying English. YouTube offers a wealth of videos that students can utilize as educational resources. Students can learn the language with the aid of brief English-language movies, videos, and lessons. This study explores the use of YouTube as a learning medium for improving speaking skills in English language instruction. YouTube, a widely accessible digital platform, offers a vast array of audio-visual content that can cater to diverse learning styles and enhance student engagement. Participants in this study, which employs a descriptive qualitative phenomenology, were seventh semester English Study Program students at Muhammadiyah University of Mataram. Data collection took place between May and July. The researcher employed semi-structured data collection methods, including recording, questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The results indicate that YouTube significantly benefits students by providing authentic language exposure, promoting interactive learning, and allowing flexible, self-paced study. However, the effectiveness of YouTube as a teaching tool is contingent on the careful selection of content and the strategic integration of videos into structured lesson plans. The study concludes that while YouTube has the potential to revolutionize language education, educators must navigate its vast resources thoughtfully to maximize its educational value. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital learning tools and offers practical recommendations for educators seeking to improve their teaching of speaking skills through YouTube.
