Abstract :
Characterization and moral values are two different elements in a literary
work, and both have an essential role in making a literary work into a work
that has a lot of influence to entertain, educate, and inspire. This study
aims to analyze the characterization and find the moral values in two
characters, Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair, in the drama series
"Wednesday" on Netflix. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative
descriptive research method. Based on the data from the analysis, it was
found that the author of the Wednesday drama series, revealing and
developing the two characters, used the method of characterization directly
through appearance and name and indirectly through dialogue and action.
Meanwhile, nine types of moral values are found in the "Wednesday"
series. They are honesty, courage, self-confidence and potential, peace of
ability, loyalty and dependability, respect, love and affection, unselfishness
and sensitivity, and kindness and friendliness. Therefore, this study of
these two elements can provide an understanding that character is formed
through characterization and that a character plays an essential role in
conveying moral values in a literary work. The Wednesday series can be
an example of a literary work that can be used to study and improve
understanding in the analysis of literary works
