Abstract :
To be considered as a good film, a film should have a strong main character. In this thesis, the
writer focused her study on the main character in The Sound of Music, Maria. The writer used
Rimmon-Kenan?s (2002) theory on the character and characterizations to help analyze Maria.
The writer discussed Maria through the characterization shown by her action, her speech, and her
appearances. The study reveals that Maria as a young postulant has different characteristics from
Maria as a nanny. Therefore it can be concluded that Maria in the movie is a dynamic character.
