Abstract :
There are many language phenomena that occur in people?s daily communication. In this case, the writer is interested in analyzing the phenomena of language, the flouting of Maxims. The purpose of this study is to describe how the flouting of Maxims occur and why they happen, especially in the talkshow. The writer choose to analyze Ini Talkshow, Ini Talkshow is a comedy-talkshow. The data were taken from Ini Talkshow script, the writer transcribed the talkshow and used them as a data source. The writer used the Gricean Maxim?s theory in analyzing this study. The results of this research show that there are many kinds of Maxims that were flouted. The kinds of Maxims that are flouted are Maxim of Quantity, Maxim of Quality, Maxim of Relation and Maxim of Manner. In general, the Maxim of Quality is flouted because the talkshow hosts and the guests had limited knowledge about the issues and because they wanted to make joke. The flouting of the Maxim of Quantity and Maxim of Relation took place because the talkshow hosts and the guests wanted to provide detailed explanation about certain topics and because they wanted to make jokes. The flouting of the Maxim of Manner happened because the talkshow hosts and guests wanted to make a joke.
