Abstract :
In this research, Yoon’s cultural adjustment stages are analyzed. Yoon is a Korean child who moved to US with her parents. There are three picturebooks in the series of Yoon that becomes the primary data for the research. The first book is entitled My Name is Yoon(2003), the second is Yoon and the Christmas Mitten(2006) and the third is Yoon and the Jade Bracelet (2009). Cultural adjustment in Yoon picturebook is interesting to analyze because in this modern era many people do migration to other countries to make a better living. Yet, adjusting into a new culture is not an easy thing for immigrant’s children. These picturebooks tell how Yoon is able to face challenges in living in the U.S.A. by going through the cultural adjustment stages of the u-curve theory proposed by Lysgaard and Oberg (1960). This research finds that thee cultural adjustment stages of Yoon goes from 1) Honeymoon stage shown in Yoon And The Christmas Mitten (2006), 2) Culture Shock stage, in My Name Is Yoon (2003 and 3) Culture Adjustment stage shown in Yoon And The Christmas Mitten (2006), then 4) Mastery stage shown in Yoon And The Jade Bracelet (2009).
