Abstract :
Critical thinking is a process of actively in observing,
understanding, evaluating, and analyzing a problem or information
that has been obtained. Critical thinking skills need to be in integrated
in the classroom activities. This study aims at exploring the
implementation and challenges of critical thinking in high school EFL
classroom. This study adopted a qualitative study as a research design
in which interviews with four English teachers, supported by
observation and document review used as data collection techniques.
The data were then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings of
this study indicate that critical thinking was implemented through
providing students with stimulating question, providing students? with
stimulating questions, using case studies to help students apply critical
thinking in context, giving students opportunities to engage in group
discussion, providing the students? to practice and analyse the
different perspectives. However teacher faced several challenges such
as the disparities of the students? level of understanding, the students?
issues of motivation and confidence, and the students lack of
knowledge. These findings are significant for developing critical
thinking in high school EFL classrooms.
