Abstract :
Air conditioning is one of the most important things in an industry or building, especially in an office building. Because with a good air conditioning system it will produce fresh air that will get comfort for humans, machines, and the environment around them. Because a good level of comfort will improve the performance of the machines used. The incompatibility of the operating pattern of the refrigerant system at the time of design with the actual situation is one of the causes of the high use of electrical energy, therefore it is necessary to analyze the performance of the refrigeration system in order to determine whether the energy used is efficient. To analyze the performance of this water chiller machine, it is done by direct observation of the water chiller control panel for four hours continuously for four days. And then a calculation is made from the data to find out the efficiency value, namely COP, refrigerant flow rate, heat absorbed by the evaporator and condenser, the work done by the compressor, the power required by the compressor, and the cooling tower volume flow rate. A good chiller performance has an efficiency that can be influenced by, among others: the temperature of the water leaving the evaporator, and the temperature of the water entering the condenser. The results of the study obtained the value of COP = 8,04, Pref = 0,437 kW, and refrigerant mass flow rate = 110.3, work done by compressor = 20,451 kW, cooling tower volume flow rate = 94,613 m^3//hour, and make-up water volume flow rate = 0,567 m^3/hour. So it can be concluded that the lower the refrigerant temperature in the condenser, the better the COP value produced (lower kW). Because the compressor work required will be lower.
