Abstract :
It is known that there is a lack of critical thinking levels in elementary school students, especially in
mathematics, the purpose of this study is to find out how effective the Contextual Teaching and Learning
method is in improving critical thinking in elementary school mathematics. The research method used
is literature review. The research was conducted by collecting data sources obtained from scientific
articles where the variables raised were Contextual Teaching and Learning, critical thinking, and
elementary school mathematics. The search for scientific articles is adjusted to the inclusion criteria that
have been determined. Based on the results of the analysis of 11 scientific articles obtained, it shows
that the use of Contextual Teaching and Learning methods can improve critical thinking in elementary
school mathematics. This is indicated by the attitude of students who are starting to be active in teaching
and learning activities, students are able to solve problems in groups or individually. Contextual
Teaching and Learning activities such as linking learning materials with students' daily lives, using
learning media that are able to generate critical thinking, active attitudes, and learning motivation for
elementary school students.
