Abstract :
This research is motivated by the low problem solving ability of students in mathematics in
elementary schools. During the learning process students were given guidance by the teacher
regarding the steps for solving problems, but in the process there were still many students who
did not follow the steps according to the instructions. This study aims to examine the description
in the application of mathematical problem solving in terms of the cognitive style of elementary
school students. The data sources used in this study were articles published in scientific journals
through the Google Scholar search portal related to students' cognitive styles in solving
mathematics problems in elementary schools. The research method used is Systematic
Literature Review (SLR) by reviewing 9 journals from 2014-2021, there are 3 experimental studies and 6 qualitative studies. Data analysis techniques in this study (1) Analysis based on
research approach, (2) Analysis based on the application of cognitive style (3) Analysis based
on the application of problem solving, (4) Analysis based on assessment instruments, (5)
Analysis based on scores and recommendations. The author recommends the steps for solving
the problem by adding media in the form of realia media. This media realia researchers input
into the 2nd polya steps in solving problems in mathematics. The existence of media allows
students to think concretely about the material presented by the teacher. Based on the results of
the study stated that cognitive style has a very important role in the problem solving process,
therefore teachers should know and understand each of the characteristics of a person's
cognitive style in the learning process.
