Abstract :
This research is motivated by the low ability of students to understand a
mathematical concept, because there are still many students who are not directly
involved in the discovery of concepts and students only listen to the explanation of
the material in one direction from the teacher. Such conditions need attention and
handling, one of the efforts to improve the low understanding of mathematical
concepts of elementary school students is to use the Contextual Teaching and
Learning (CTL) model. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of
elementary school students' understanding of mathematical concepts through the
application of the CTL model. This study uses literature study research, namely by
looking for theoretical references that are relevant to the cases or problems found that
are in accordance with the research to be carried out by the researcher and are
considered to be able to answer the problem formulation that has been previously
designed by the researcher. The results of the 21 journals of understanding
mathematical concepts using the CTL model consist of 10 research method journals
that use CAR research, 9 experimental research journals, 1 qualitative research
journal, while the literature study research is 1 journal. Thus it can be concluded that
the application of the CTL model can improve students' understanding of
mathematical concepts, such as: restating a concept, classifying objects according to
certain properties,
