Abstract :
KOMiK Community's Interpretation of Adolescent Mental Health in the Film Dear Nathan: Hello Salma Mental health is a much discussed issue nowadays. Many suicides are caused by mental health disorders. The film Dear Nathan: Hello Salma is one of the films that raises mental health issues. This research discusses how the KOMiK Community interprets mental health issues in the film Dear Nathan: Hello Salma using in-depth interview method with descriptive qualitative approach and using Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory. The results showed that informants could understand and interpret the mental health issues conveyed in the film Dear Nathan: Hello Salma. However, there are some informants who have different meanings. The majority of informants' interpretations are in the dominant-hegemonic position from all categories. Of the seven categories studied, the dominant-hegemonic position was found in seven categories, the negotiated position was found in one categories, and the oppositional position was found in seven categories. The majority of informants thought that film Dear Nathan: Hello Salma discussed mental health issues regarding depression. Researchers suggest for further research to conduct offline interviews.
