Abstract :
The presence of social media is currently used by individuals to express
certain feelings or emotions that are being felt, this is a form of self-disclosure
referred to as self-disclosure. Instagram is a medium used by individuals to form
self-disclosure, especially for teenagers. Through Instagram, one can form
personal branding as desired. This study succeeded in examining how the attitude
of self-disclosure of adolescents in expressing themselves on Instagram social
media. By using the Johari Window theory, to analyze how open someone is in
Instagram social media. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with a
case study approach. The results of the study explain that self-disclosure made by
teenagers on Instagram is a personal branding that they form themselves by
displaying content that is in accordance with their wishes. In the open area,
adolescents display their positive self, such as showing happiness, showing talent
or expertise, and sharing useful information for others. The blind area has an
assessment that they get from the self-disclosure that has been done, the assessment
can be positive or negative. Furthermore, in the hidden area, teenagers hide things
that are private, such as family problems, and their own shortcomings. The
unknown area was not found in this study, because the self-disclosure made was
public. because teenagers consciously sort out information before they share it on
social media.
