Abstract :
ABSTRACT Wulandari, P. D., (2020). Code-switching Used by Indonesian Beauty Vloggers. Thesis. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2019/2020. The first supervisor is Drs. Ahmad Ridha, M.A. The second supervisor is Melati, S. Pd., M.CC. The purpose of the study is to analyze the types and functions of code-switching used by Indonesian beauty vlogger on YouTube. The data were gathered through observing two videos posted by two beauty vloggers. The vlogger involved are Suhay Salim and Tasya Farasya who switched languages between Bahasa Indonesia and English in their videos. The video were transcribed and coded based on the types and function of code-switching. The result of this study shows that the most common type of code-switching used by the vlogger is intra-sentential with 111 out of 136 total data followed by intersentential with 21 data and tag swathing with only 4 data. Meanwhile, for the function of code-switching, it is found that facility of expression is the most common function with 92 data. Personalization or objectification has 29 data out of 136 total data and it followed by addressee specification, repetition and interjection with 4 data each. Message qualification only has 2 data and quotation with 1 data as the least common function of code-switching used by the vlogger. Keywords: Code-switching, Video, Vlogger, YouTube.
