Abstract :
This research aims to find out The Effectiveness of the Snake and Ladder Game in Mastering Vocabulary at the 11th Grade Students of SMA Negeri 11 Muaro Jambi. The research design used in this research was experimental research (true experimentation). The population of this research was the 11th grade students of SMA Negeri 11 Muaro Jambi and the sample were 59 students of two classes XI IPS 1 as Control class (29 students) and XI IPS 2 (29 students) as Experimental class. The data of the research were collected by giving pretest and posttest to the students. The collected data was analyzed by using non-parametric statistics (Wilcoxon). The result of the data analysis showed that the mean scores of the pre-test in the experimental class and control class were 59.14 and 85.52 while the mean scores of the post-test experimental and control class were 56.90 and 85.17. Moreover, the result of the nonparametric test (Wilcoxon) shows that the average asymp sig. (2 tailed) in post-test experimental and post-test control was (0.955 > 0.05) and (0.710 > 0.05). it means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was accepted. It can be concluded the Snake and ladder board game is not Significant to help students master vocabulary. the use of the snake and ladder game has no effect on mastering vocabulary for the 11th-grade students of SMA Negeri 11 Muaro Jambi.
