Abstract :
The purposes of this qualitative research were to investigate the argument structure built by NUDC participant at Universitas Jambi. The researcher used case study as an approach in this study to generate an in-depth, thorough comprehension of a complex topic in its real-life context, which the actual context in this study is the debate competition. The source of the data in this research is the audio record of final NUDC 2023 sessions at the faculty level and university level at Universitas Jambi. In collecting the data, the researcher used transcript and datasheet as the research instrument. The data were then analyzed by using Toulmin Argument Pattern theories (Toulmin, 2003). The result indicated that two kind of argument structure were identified, the two kind of it is standard argument and non-standard argument. This research also revealed that there were different pattern of argument structure in each speaker or debate.
