Abstract :
Due to cultural differences, translating culture-related terms in Haemin Sunim's self-help book, "The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down," into Indonesian presents significant challenges. This qualitative research explored the complexities of the cultural terms translation process and highlighted the influence of cultural disparities. The English version of the book, translated by Chi-Young Kim and Haemin Sunim, and its Indonesian translation by Daniel Sentosa, entitled "The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down: Cara untuk Tetap Tenang dan Berkesadaran di Tengah Dunia yang Serbacepat," served as the data sources. According to Newmark's (1988) categorization, there were 90 cultural terms set into five categories: five for ecology, 16 for material culture, 22 for social culture, 46 for organizations and customs, and one for gesture and habit. Regarding the translation strategy, four out of Baker's (2018) nine strategies were employed: four for translation by a more general word, 27 for translation by cultural substitution, 58 for translation using a loan word or loan word plus explanation, and one for translation by paraphrase using related words. The findings show how important it is to translate cultural terms tactfully and consider cultural differences.
