Abstract :
This research aims to find out how animated folklore videos with subtitles are used as a medium for teaching vocabulary to eighth-grade students at MTS Muhammadiyah Jambi City. The method used in this research is action research. In this action research, the researcher acts as the teacher in the teaching-learning process. Meanwhile, the English teacher acts as the observer. From the vocabulary test, the students? pre-test mean score, which was 41, increased to 66 in the first post-test and increased to 76 in the final post-test. The result shows that animated folklore videos can help students to improve their vocabulary, and improve class situation. Firstly, students learn new vocabulary that they don't know yet in the video. Then, there is a positive development in students' memorization. This can be seen from them answering correctly when they are given vocabulary questions that are the same as the vocabulary they have studied. Next, the researcher succeeded in overcoming the difficulty of differentiating parts of speech. Lastly, increase involvement in the class, the use of animated folklore videos with subtitles increases student involvement during learning based on observations and documentation during research. So, the conclusion obtained after conducting this research is that the use of animated folklore videos can improve students' vocabulary mastery, and in the process of using animated videos it was found that the class atmosphere improved, for example, students became more involved in the lesson, students focused on the lesson.
