Abstract :
Writing is one of important skills in learning English. But in doing writing
there is long process needed to compose text and generating ideas that make
students feel difficult. Furthermore, they have problem with a lack of vocabulary, a
little bit understanding of grammar. The researcher used the available strategy in
solving that problem. Therefore it is important to do the research entitled
?Improving the tenth grade students? writing ability by using PLEASE strategy?
In this research, the problem is ?How can PLEASE strategy improve the
tenth grade students? writing ability at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jember in the
2016/2017 Academic year??. The aim of this research is to find out how the use of
PLEASE strategy can improve the tenth grade students? writing ability at SMA
Muhammadiyah 3 Jember in 2016/2017 academic year.
The study of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). This
research covered four stages of activities, they are planning of the action,
implementing of the action, observing of the action, and reflecting of the action.
The subject of this research is X IPS 3 class because their writing score still low
which consist of 32 students and to obtain the research data instrument used test
and observation. The aspects of scoring writing test are grammar, vocabulary,
organization, mechanic, and content. The data was analyzed using this formula:
