Abstract :
Sadness is a normal temporary emotion. Sadness is not always a negative emotion, precisely if there is no sadness in a person it will result in a loss of emotional balance that affects a person's behavior. In this study the writer will analyze songs by Sam Smith. His songs tell of sadness caused by a breakup and despair. The songs lead to the disclosure of disappointment, despair, and regret. The writer tooks this theme because the writer looks the lyrics of the song has a deep meaning and spirit that same with poetry. To analyze these songs, the writer uses literary theory (the study of poetry) and the concept of emotion: sadness with proof of using verbal and nonverbal expressions.
