Abstract :
This sociolinguistic-based research is aimed to examine the features and functions of women?s language used by characters Stephanie and Emily from A Simple Favor movie. The writer elaborates the theory of women?s language features by Robin Lakoff (1973) namely (1) lexical hedges or fillers, (2) tag questions, (3) rising intonation, (4) empty adjectives, (5) precise color terms, (6) intensifiers, (7) hypercorrect grammar, (8) superpolite form, (9) avoidance of strong swear words, and (10) emphatic stress, and combines it with the theory of women?s language functions by Judy Pearson (1985) which refer to implicit meanings. The writer uses the qualitive research method and focuses on the utterances performed by Stephanie and Emily which taken from the movie and its scripts.
