Abstract :
This research paper entitled ?Translation Methods From English To Bahasa
Indonesia In ?A Blunder? Short Story By Anton Chekhov". The objectives of the
research are to find out what translation method is most used in translating short
stories and to analyze the results of the translation method to find the equivalent
translation used in translating A Blunder" short story by Anton Chekhov. The writer
uses qualitative research method and applied descriptive analysis. The main sources
are 31 data based on the short story entitled A Blunder. The result of data analysis
showed that the translation mostly used were first is communicative translation 17
of 31 data, the second is literal translation 8 of 31 data, the third is idiom translation
4 of 31 data, the fourth is word by word translation 1 of 31 data, and the last is free
translation 1 of 31 data. The conclusion is translating one language into another is
not easy without understanding not only language but also culture. The choice of
method must be done carefully by looking at the words and their own meanings. In
other side, the meaning in the Target Language to be equivalent to the meaning in
the Source Language.
