Abstract :
Politeness is the most important part of good comunication because it is the foundation of all human relationship. However, there are still some difficulties in applying the polite and proper language for communication. This research aims to answer two of formulations of the problem: 1.) What are the types of politeness strategies used by the four main characters in Charlie?s Angels movie? 2.) What are the factors of politeness strategies that influence the choice of use by the four main characters in Charlie?s Angels movie? The author uses qualitative method to analyze the coversation of the main characters in Charlie?s Angels movie. The author analyze the utterances in order to find out the types of politeness strategies used by the four main characters. The results of the analysis show that the four main characters in Charlie?s Angels movie use the types of politeness strategies, i.e. Bald on Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, and Off-Record. The factors of politeness strategies are Payoffs and Sociological Variable which consist of Social Distance, Relative Power, and Rank of Imposition. Bald-on Record strategy is the most used types in this movie, because all of the main characters use a direct way of saying things, without the minimisation to the imposition, in a direct, clear, unambiguous and concise way.
