Abstract :
Communication is essential and is the way to understand the intent of one human to another human, and we need a tool to communicate, and the tool of communication is a language. Language is critical in communication because we will know about the meaning of conversation with another person. Language has many functions, and one of the functions is to show one's expression or feelings of happiness, sadness, loneliness, and anger. And sometimes, people are often heard or even saying a bad words such as sh*t, f*ck, those vocabularies are uttered in any condition and situation nowadays, especially adolescents.But when people is saying a bad words, there are have so many purpose and motives. The purpose of this studey is to provide an understanding of the types, functions and motives of swearing which are used by the characters in ?Uncut Gems? movie. This study uses qualitative approach, and content analysis method to conduct the research. The result of the study shows that the characters in ?Uncut Gems? movie use several swear words, such as the types, the functions and the motives of swear words. The swear words that uttered in the movie is have a functions and the motives why did the characters in ?Uncut Gems? movie swearing.
