Abstract :
Linguistic is the science of language or science that makes language the object of study. Language is also used for writing song lyrics. Song is one part of literature, which means the art of tone or sound accompanied by a musical instrument. In the song, there are some lyrics that are difficult to understand, we don't even know the real meaning, because the lyrics of the song use figurative language, like in some Selena Gomez songs. In early 2020, Selena Gomez released a new album with the name ?Rare?, in the song's lyrics there are several figurative words that are difficult to understand. Figurative language has several types, there are metaphors, similes, personifications, hyperbole, idioms, synecdoche, alliteration, allusion, repetition, oxymoron, irony and onomatopoeia. Types of figurative language have different meanings. This research use descriptive method. This study uses a qualitative approach. A qualitative approach is a process of research and understanding based on methodology that investigates social phenomena and human problems. In this approach, the research procedure produces descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from the people being observed and the behavior being observed. The writing technique used in data collection is literature study, collecting literature and other scientific works for review.
