Abstract :
This study aims to analyse gender inequality or gender discrimination in song lyrics in Happier Than Ever album by using supporting theories and figurative language as the tool to do the analysis. This study is using descriptive qualitative method, and feminism approach. The object of this study is song lyrics in Happier Than Ever (2021) album by Billie Eilish. The data collected with documentation techniques, by reading the lyrics and finding the lyrics that include gender inequality, and analyzing it with the types of gender inequality. The result of this research includes five types of gender inequality in the song lyrics. Which is gender and marginalization, gender and subordination, gender and stereotype, gender and violence, and gender and burden. The figurative language that mostly used in this album is metaphor, in which to convey what the singer feels without saying it clearly.
