Abstract :
This study aims to analyze the hidden meaning behind figurative language expression in the folklore album by Taylor Swift by using supporting theories and semantics as the tool of the analysis. A qualitative approach is applied as an approach to this research and the qualitative descriptive method is the focus of analyzing this research. Qualitative research is a holistic approach that involves discovery. The object of this research is folklore, Taylor Swift?s eighth studio album. The data is collected by taking notes, adjusting the song lyrics, and classifying the necessary lyrics based on what is needed, as they will be important in the use of analyzing the topic. Once the data collection is done, it will be analyzed through several steps, first, identifying and looking up words, phrases, and sentences that may contain hidden meanings and figurative language. Next is to provide necessary data regarding the hidden meanings behind the lyrics and the use of figurative language in this album through the genius.com website, in providing the mentioned needed lyrics. Lastly, conclude to prove the objective of the research. The result of this research is with figurative language, the stories that lie underneath the hidden meanings behind the song lyrics can be decoded.
