Abstract :
This study attempts to describe the subtitle strategy used in the "Spider-Man 2021" movie script that has been translated from source text into target text, and then categorize them into five subtitle strategies. The research used descriptive qualitative methodology. Subtitling strategies were analyzed by using Gottlieb?s (1992), classify subtitling strategies consist of expansion, paraphrase, transfer, imitation, transcription, deletion, dislocation, condensation, decimation and resignation. The subtitles of ?Spider-Man 2021? analysis were done by comparing the original subtitles and the translated subtitles to find out the subtitling strategies. The results of this research found that there are five number of the subtitling strategies which are found in ?Spider-Man 2021? movie script are 143 data. The results show that there are transfer reached 100 data, imitation reached 22 data, expansion gets 15 data, dislocation gets 3 data. And the last strategy is paraphrase reaches 3 data, The most dominant strategy used in ?Spider-Man 2021? is transfer with 100 data out of 143, because the subtitler translated the dialogue word to word and maintains the structure of the original text. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that the subtitler used different strategies to overcome difficulties on translating one language to another language.
