Abstract :
This thesis explores the use of positive politeness strategies by the main characters in the movie
script of "Paul, Apostle of Christ". The research aims to identify the types of positive politeness
strategies employed by the main characters throughout various dialogues in the movie script. Brown
and Levinson's politeness theory serves as the theoretical framework for this study. A qualitative
research approach is adopted, utilizing methods such as observation, script analysis, and the
examination of documents and written sources. The data collection technique involves closely
observing and analyzing the script text to identify instances of positive politeness strategies
employed by the main characters. The findings indicate that the main characters employ a range of
positive politeness strategies, including compliments, expressions of gratitude, polite greetings, and
conveying good wishes. Additionally, the characters use more complex politeness strategies, such
as humor, to strengthen their interpersonal relationships. These findings underscore the significance
of employing positive politeness strategies in maintaining harmony and positive relationships among
the characters in the movie script.
